New Mexico FIRST® LEGO® League
FIRST® LEGO® League

FIRST® LEGO® League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-14 through fun, exciting hands-on learning.

Three divisions inspire youth to experiment and grow their critical thinking, coding, and design skills through hands-on STEM learning and robotics.

FIRST® Core Values
The FIRST Core Values are the cornerstone of the FIRST LEGO League program. By embracing the Core Values, participants learn that friendly competition and mutual gain are not separate goals, and that helping one another is the foundation of teamwork

Gracious Professionalism® is a way of doing things that encourages high-quality work, emphasizes the value of others, and respects individuals and the community.

Coopertition® is displaying unqualified kindness and respect in the face of fierce competition, and knowing that learnning is more important than winning.

We express the FIRST philosophies of

Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition® through our Core Values

    •    Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
    •    Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
    •    Impact:  We apply what we learn to improve our world.
    •    Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
    •    Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
    •    Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!

FIRST LEGO League Divisions

For children ages 4-6, this playful introductory STEM program ignites young students' natural curiosity and builds their habits of learning with hands-on activities in the classroom and at home using LEGO® DUPLO® bricks.

In Explore, teams of students ages 6-10 focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential or  WeDo 2.0.
Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students ages 9-14 engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKETM
Prime or LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. As part of Challenge, teams also design an
innovative solution to a real-world problem
relevant to the theme.
